New Pebble iSmoothRun App, with dedicated watchface and customizable recording screen
Many thanks to everybody for the glowing reviews of the new iOS7 version. Your encouragement and support is what keeps this app developing.
My plans for 2014 include triathlon, so you can expect a lot of development for cycling (power meters etc) and hmm... even swimming. If you have any crazy ideas don't hesitate to contact us.
Beautiful new design. Made in Switzerland!
Totally redesigned iSmoothRun. True iOS7 look and feel.
When iOS7 was introduced, we knew that everything should be changed. Instead of just removing the gradients from the old design, just like most apps did, we hired a Swiss designer so we could come up with something new. As with the old design we tried to follow closely Apple's guidelines so usability is not hurt, while at the same time have a distinct look. We added increased contrast for better legibility, beautiful typography and a new customisable dashboard. We really want you to enjoy your runs and your app. We are sure you are going to love it.
With Laps you can keep statistics for the different sections of your run when a simple workout is performed. It's important to note that laps apply to simple workouts or workouts that have at most three sections (for example warmup/steady/cool down). If a custom workout is performed with more than three sections then the app automatically marks the laps based on the workout sections. The lap button is still active though, and can be used to advance to the next interval
In the settings you will find a new item called "Dashboard" that lets you setup your dashboard. There are two colour themes a light one and a dark one to suite your needs. You can also customise what values are displayed. The top value where "Time" is displayed by default, is replaced by the inverse timers when an interval is performed. Various values can be displayed, like pace, HR etc and their Lap averages. Lap averages refer to user laps or workout sections, depending on the workout performed. "Split pace" specifically refers to the average pace of 1 mile or 1 km depending on user settings. Pace is automatically replaced by speed when the activity is Cycling or MTB
Support for the Magellan Echo smart sports watch is added. You can find it in Settings->Displays along with RFLT and Pebble
You can also customise the pages of Echo and RFLKT. Regarding RFLKT the app will no longer switch automatically to an "Intervals page" when an interval is performed. RFLKT buttons have been reassigned as well, due to the introduction of Laps. For RFLKT the buttons are: top left:Light, top right:next page, bottom right:start,resume/pause, bottom left: lap/advance interval. Eco buttons are mapped as: top left:Light, top right:start/pause music, double click next song, bottom right:start,resume/pause, bottom left: lap/advance interval, screen tap:next page.
In the Run setup screen you will find a "Check Sensors status" button. You can use this to connect to your HRM or Footpod before you actually start your run, to make sure that you won't have any connection problems. The connection status is displayed on the top left with icons for each sensor just as they appear in the recording dashboard.
Starting with this version import of training plans in TCX format is added. A TCX file containing a training plan can be imported via Dropbox as usual. The workouts will appear in the calendar. Not all kinds of plans are supported though. Specifically only workouts scheduled on specific dates can be imported. Not all training targets are supported as well. Pacing is supported when target is Customised speedzone, predefined speedzones will be added later. In general this feature is added as a test phase and although it works very well for many cases, it might not work for you. Please contact us if you have problems so we can extend our support.
MyFitnessPal support! MFP has been the most frequent request for over a year. MFP team finally accepted us and we are happy to let our users post their caloric consumptions to MFP. Enjoy!
A footpod is the best way to pace yourself during your run. Now you can connect your 4s/5 with a BT Smart footpod like the Polar BTSmart.
This is the last version supporting iOS5 and iOS6. It works great in iOS7 as well. Nevertheless soon after iOS7 launch the app will be updated with a new look and it will be available for iOS7 only!
At last! Pebble support could be officially added in this release. We use the pebble supplied stock "sports app". As pebble is going to be adding more features we will closely follow. Enjoy!
Thanks to your enormous support and strong reaction, Strava support has been added back. Thanks to Strava for reconsidering and reverting their original decision, giving us access to the new v3 API. Hopefully more features and better support will be possible in the future!
Due to popular demand FB status updates are back along with the fitness action option. Now you can post as you like.
There are some minor fixes and improvements. The most notable one is that a step counter is added for running, so that total steps are reported in the log of each run!
This version adds support for two important external hardware devices. These are the new Viiiiva BT HRM by 4iiii that can bridge ANT+ sensors to the iPhone and the RFLKT BT Smart display by Wahoo.
iSmoothRun is the first app to support Viiiiva and the only app to support both Viiiiva and RFLKT so you can connect your existing ANT+ cycling sensors, your iPhone 5 through Viiiva, and your RFLKT display.
We are proud that iSmoothRun is the app with the most extensive support for sensors and hardware. We know that our users, runners, cyclists and triathletes, have an existing inventory of sensors they want to use. They are also eager to test new gadgets that make their training more effective and fun. Even if you don't currently use any sensors you can be confident that if you decide to, your favourite app won't let you down. And for those wondering about Pebble support, let us say that we are waiting for pebble to release their SDK and we will support it as soon as possible.
Support for 4iiii Viiiiva BTSmart HRM and ANT+ to BT bridge. Viiiiva is a unique product. It will let you use all your ANT+ sensors (footpod, cycling speed/cadence/power) with your BT smart iPhone (4S or 5) without any dongle. The HRM pairs with the ANT+ sensors and sends all the data to the iPhone as well as to your ANT+ sports watch.
Support for Wahoo RFLKT BT Smart display. RFLKT is the first BT Smart display for cycling. You can leave your phone in the back pocket and see the ride data on the RFLKT mounted on your handlebars just like any bike computer.
There is a new version in the app store. During the last months a lot of work has been done regarding workouts and training plans. These changes might not be evident yet on the user level, but will let us add important functionality in the future, such as: import of full training plans, advanced intervals with many more options, workouts for cyclists and even brick workouts for triathletes. For the moment we start by integrating training plan support with 2PEAK.com, and by letting users schedule their workouts.
Here is a detail walkthrough of the new features
Support for 2PEAK.com training plans. 2PEAK offers dynamic training plans adapting automatically to users needs and the execution of the plan. 2PEAK users following a training plan, will have their plan automatically uploaded in the App. The app will show the next two weeks planned sessions in the calendar view. Training plans are either pace based or HR based for runners and power based or HR based for cyclist. The corresponding workouts are automatically created in the app. The user can check his workouts in the calendar view, and can select the workout to perform from the workouts view (there he can select the workouts scheduled for the specific day). Normal audio coaching is offered as with custom workouts. The app also uploads the session to 2PEAK for further processing and plan adaptation. If you use iSmoothRun for your 2PEAK plan we make affiliate revenue, for which we are grateful.
New Automatic mode for Metronome. With the new mode the metronome will start automatically when you are off your target cadence. There is even an extra option that will let you run on a faster cadence but not slower. It will also disengage on Warmup/CoolDown/Recovery sections. For example if you want to keep your cadence above 88, you set the metronome to 88 (or 176 if you prefer to hear the tick on every foot strike), you switch on "Auto" and "Permit Higher Cadence". The metronome will engage automatically only when you drop below 88.
You can now schedule your workouts. In the "calendar view" if you tap the "+" button while a future date is selected the custom workouts section is shown and you can schedule the workout, thus creating a workout plan.
You can now manually enter a session. In the "calendar view" if you tap the "+" button while on a past date you are presented with a view where you can enter your workout session details.
Added support for ANT+ Cycling power meters. Added support for separate speed or cadence sensors. A wahoo dongle is needed.
There are two new Audio cues during intervals. When performing intervals you will hear the interval number. So for example for the second repetition you will hear "Interval 2, 5 min at …." When performing a Time based interval/steady section you will get reminders at 4 mins 2 mins 1min and 30 seconds from end. For distance based sections the app already supports cues at 800, 400, 200 and 100 meters.
Added export to MapMyRun
Added export to Fitbit. You can also automatically import weight info from Fitbit (for Aria users)
Support importing multi activity TCX files.
Cumulative ascend is a new option in the charts. HR Zones are also plotted in the charts.
...and many more smaller changes...
Another update with many features for our awesome runners. Main features are Dropbox support, Custom filters and bulk import/export operations. It is our core belief that the user should own his data, and the he should be able to move or use any web service or app he wants. With this version we come even closer to our goal. By providing bulk import our users can populate the app with their historical data, and then using bulk export, populate with data any of the sites we support or the ones we 'll add in the future.
We are excited to provide new ways of looking into your data and custom filters can be used to gain insight of your training.
We hope you enjoy it.
Here is a detail walkthrough of the new features
Till now you could only filter your runs in the log based on Activity type. Now you can create custom filters. These can include the following fields of the session summary:
Custom filters can be saved and have various uses.
One use is to select a range of runs based on date, to perform bulk export operations. So if we support a new web service for runners, you can massively upload to it. Since this can take too long you can create a filter with a date range (last two months for example) and export only them.
Suppose you start a new running training plan and you want to see statistics and graphs for this period. You create a filter with start date the start of your training, and activity "Running". Whenever you apply it you will see only statistics of the specific period.
Moreover you can check specific aspects of your training. So suppose you want to check your performance on long runs. You will specify "Activity:Running" and "Day of Week:Sunday". Only these runs are listed in the log and you can check statistics and graphs for them.
Thus you can check a graph of Average pace and Mileage of your long runs runs and get useful insight of your training. Instead of "Sunday" you could also use the "user note" field if you mark the trainings with words like "Long", "Tempo" etc.
Long runs of a marathon training period (distance in km and Pace in mins/km). A filter like that could also be used for your tempo or speed trainings.
You can connect iSR with your Dropbox account (Settings->Social and Export->Dropbox). The app will use the dropbox folder "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun" for import/export of your runs. You can choose TCX or GPX as the preferred format.
Automatic export can be used as for all other services. Exported files are placed in folder "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun/Export"
Import and bulk import is performed from the folder "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun/Import". Files successfully imported are placed in folder "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun/Import/Imported".
TCX, GPX import is added. TCX files that contain more than one sessions are not supported for the moment. HR and Cadence values in extensions are supported. Import can be done in two ways. Either tap a GPX/TCX file in an email attachment or in the dropbox app, and select iSR as the app to open it, or place the file(s) in "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun/Import" and tap the import icon at the top of the Log. In the latter case all files (with .tcx or .gpx extension) placed in the folder will be imported. In case of existence of a session with the same starting time in the log, the incoming session is skipped.
As this is a time consuming operation make sure you have fast Internet connection (WiFi) if importing large data sets. You are advised to perform import on smaller subsets. All files successfully imported will be moved in the "~/Dropbox/Apps/iSmoothRun/Import/Imported" folder. The ones that remain in the "Import" folder are the ones failed. The cause can be either an input error, or a network error. In the latter case you can try pressing import again to see if some more files get imported. During the whole operation the app should remain in the foreground.
Bulk Export can be performed for all sites supported by the app, and dropbox. Whenever possible TCX should be preferred. Since this can be a time consuming operation you are advised not to export very large data sets at once. You can use custom filters to select only a few months of activities
It should be noted that bulk export can't substitute backup, because not all data can be saved in a TCX file. We plan to solve this problem in the near future by adding extensions in the TCX files and/or supporting iCloud. Till then you are advised to backup your phone in iTunes
